YOUR DOG DOESN’T NEED MORE OBEDIENCE.

Common Scents Dog Training gives you common sense solutions for the things that actually matter in the real world, so you can stop struggling with your dog and start enjoying life together.

YOU LOVE YOUR DOG

BUT IF WE’RE BEING HONEST…

YOU DON’T ALWAYS LIKE LIVING WITH THEM.

Be honest. How many of these sound familiar?

You've basically become a monk. You don't go anywhere. You don't invite anyone over. Avoiding civilization just feels easier than dealing with your dog's behavior and the embarrassment that comes with it.

You've consulted Dr. Google, Professor TikTok and the Facebook Dog Experts. One person says you need more treats. Another says you're using too many treats. Someone's uncle says you need to "show him who's boss." At this point, you have no idea who the hell you're supposed to trust.

Your dog's quirks have somehow become the family schedule. Where you go. Who comes over. When you walk. Which route you take. Where everyone needs to be when the Amazon guy knocks. You're basically running air traffic control for one furry little weirdo.

You're micromanaging everything. Gates. Leashes. Closed blinds. Strategic exits. Elaborate plans for completely normal human activities. You're spending way more time managing your dog than actually enjoying them.

And maybe it isn't funny anymore. You've wondered how long you can keep living like this. Maybe you've even had the conversations you never thought you'd have about rehoming or euthanasia.

You didn't get a dog so you could spend your entire life managing their behavior.

You got a dog because you wanted a life together.

PUT MORE LIFE INTO THE YEARS YOU HAVE TOGETHER.

HAVE PEOPLE OVER AGAIN.

The doorbell doesn't have to trigger a 20-minute shitshow of barking, jumping and apologizing to your guests.

Open the door.
Let people in.
Sit down.
Enjoy your company.
Revolutionary, we know.

We don't get nearly enough years with our dogs. Let's not spend them fighting over the leash, hiding from the doorbell or sitting at home because taking the dog sounds like too much damn work.

ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR WALKS.

No more pulling, lunging, barking, dragging or spending the entire walk scanning the horizon for incoming disasters.

A walk can just be...a walk.

Maybe even a good one.

STOP TAKING ADVICE FROM RANDOM PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET.

Bob on TikTok has a ring light and opinions. We have an education.

Get real answers about your dog from certified professionals who can help you understand your dog.

GO LIVE YOUR DAMN LIFE TOGETHER.

Have people over. Take the walk. Go on the road trip. Hit the trail. Sit on the patio. Spend a lazy Sunday doing absolutely nothing together.

Your dog doesn't need to become a perfectly obedient robot before you're allowed to enjoy them.

We don't get enough time with our dogs.
Let's put more enjoyment into the years we do have.

I BECAME A DOG TRAINER BECAUSE MY DOGS TRIED TO KILL EACH OTHER.

Opie was reactive to other dogs on walks and in stores.
He fought with my other dog.
Eventually, our whole life started revolving around managing his behavior.

He was a good dog. But living with him was freakin’ hard.

So when I tell you I understand what you're going through, I mean it.

We tried local trainers.
Group classes.
Internet advice.
TikTok trainers.

We did what we were told to do and still couldn't get over the rut we were stuck in.

Eventually, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I started learning everything I could about animal behavior and ethology. And the more I learned, the more I started to understand where I'd gone wrong with Opie.

Not because I didn't love him enough.
Not because I wasn't trying hard enough.
I just didn't understand the dog in front of me.

And once I did, everything changed.

That's when I decided I wanted to become the person I wish we'd had when we were struggling: someone who could help people understand their dogs before things got that hard…and help the people already there find their way out.

You don't have to figure this shit out alone.

I DID THE HOMEWORK SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO.

Testimonials

  • I highly recommend Common Scents Training. We approached Emily due to our dog’s reactive issues. Emily’s approach is straightforward and non-judgmental. Her training instructions were easy to understand and put into practice. She has a deep understanding of dog behavior and has helped us understand our dog better. Walks are getting easier and our dog’s confidence has grown. I only wish we had approached her sooner.

  • "Emily is knowledgeable, patient, and truly meets you where you are while encouraging you to reach the next level. Her direct, practical advice made a world of difference in our day-to-day living, and we're so grateful for her guidance."

    Megan Storc

  • "The moment I messaged Emily and voiced my concerns, she reassured me she could help and she definitely has. The minute she came over, she got to work with our dog and just watching her made us feel like we could handle this attention seeking behavior. She did things with my dog, I didn’t even know my dog could do!! After our session, my family and I got to work and implemented what Emily taught us the second she left and it has made a world of difference in our home. "

WE’RE RAISING DOGS. NOT ROBOTs.

You didn’t get a dog because you dreamed of having the best “sit” in the neighborhood.

You got a dog because you wanted a companion.
Someone to walk with, adventure with, have people over with and share your life with.

But somewhere between the barking, pulling, reactivity and 47 conflicting opinions about how to fix it, life with your dog got a whole lot harder than you expected.

At Common Scents Dog Training, we believe obedience is the lowest standard of dog ownership.

Your dog doesn’t need to become perfectly obedient. You need to understand the dog in front of you, and your dog needs a reason to listen when it actually matters.

That’s where we come in.

We help dog owners understand why their dogs do what they do and teach practical, real-life skills that make living together easier.

No cookie-cutter training plans.
No chasing perfect obedience for the sake of obedience.
And no making you feel like a shitty dog owner because you're struggling.

It starts with a free evaluation.

We’ll meet you and your dog, figure out what’s actually going on and recommend a training plan that makes sense for both of you. Then we’ll teach you what you need to know so eventually, you don’t need us anymore.

Because you only get so many years with your dog.
Spend less of them managing behavior and more of them actually living together.
